Public Health Expert, Cape Town
Job description
EPCON is seeking a dedicated Public Health Expert to contribute to our mission of bolstering public health systems, from forecasting disease burden to optimising intervention strategies. Our Epi-control platform is used to facilitate data visualisation, real-time monitoring and predicting. Our platform has supported projects across many different countries including Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Guinea, benefiting over 2 billion people.
You will play a critical role in bridging epidemiological expertise with innovative technology, supporting NGOs and Ministries of Health in optimizing the fight against infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis, HIV, Malaria, and other public health threats.
In this role you will

Provide epidemiological expertise to the EPCON team, supporting projects on the African Continent.

Guide disease control strategies by interpreting model outputs, identifying high-risk areas, and formulating evidence-based recommendations for public health interventions.

Engage with Ministries of Health, NGOs, and international health organizations to understand their needs and translate them to the EPCON team.

Support the implementation and scaling of the Epi-control platform, ensuring alignment with public health policies and operational workflows.

Develop and contribute to publications, reports, and presentations to communicate EPCON’s impact on global public health.

Desired skill set
An ideal candidate has a University degree in one of the following domains:

Epidemiology and disease surveillance methodologies

Health policy and program implementation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)

Data-driven decision-making in public health interventions

Experience working with Ministries of Health, WHO, or global health organizations

Strong communication skills to translate technical findings into actionable public health strategies
EPCON provides training and support to ensure that candidates can fully leverage our technology and platform.
Education & Experience

A Master’s or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, or a related field

A minimum of 5 years of experience in public health, ideally in infectious disease control, epidemiological research, or health system strengthening
